Hot diggity dog...I struck movie gold!

Ok, normally I don’t get weepy at movies. Oh, scratch that. Who am I kidding! I bawl. Bawl like a little baby. I should own stock in Kleenex. But I don’t cry at everything. Just  movies that really tug at your heartstrings.

We are total Netflix junkies and love searching crazily through the plethora of options to find the next Hollywood treasure. Lately, there have been tons of duds. But this weekend, we struck gold.  In a world filled with “wham, bam, thank you mam” movies, blood & gore and crude humor…I found these two little gems in the same weekend. By jolly, I should go buy a lottery ticket, I’m on fire.

So, instead of writing a devotional this week, I’m going to share with you two little movie gems  you won’t want to miss. And the best part, they are both free if you have a Netflix account. Sweet, right? Ok, here goes….

1.   Marriage Retreat – This movie cracked me up. No sniffles, just laughs. Lots and lots of giggles. It was a delightful surprise. Now, I could be biased. I'm currently doing the marketing  forthis really fantastic marriage workshop. My husband and I are also leading a marriage-focused Bible study right now. So my mind is on marriage a lot lately. But I watched with a bunch of married folks and they laughed their butts off too. It’s worth checking out...unless you're single, then skip to #2.

2.  The Encounter – This movie rocks the Kasbah. It's a movie about a group of strangers who meet Jesus one fateful, stormy night in an out of the way diner. I bawled like a baby. Everyone I watched the movie with bawled like a baby. It was a veritable bawl fest. Four thumbs up. Can’t say enough about this one.  I think we’ll incorporate it into a small group bible study too.

Well, that’s it. My Roger & Ebert moment is over. I don't plan on writing tons of movie reviews since I’m typically the one who chooses all the duds in our family. But this week I struck gold and had to share! And if I strike gold again, I'll make sure to spread the love.
If you watch, let me know what you think!

Nicki, we watched The Encounter and cried too. Such a moving film. Thought it was odd at first, but then got into it and cried, cried, cried!

  2. Hey Nikki,
Too many times there are just too many "no one should be watching that" movies anymore. We have found a few lately, such as "The Help" (wondeful, awesome movie - you'll laugh, cry, hoot and holler) but it has been hard to find any others that were really worth anything. I am going to rent these two for out next "movie night" and I'll let you know what I think. Thanks for sharing these!

My daughter told me about this movie, and I completely forgot about it. I think I may rent it today. I'll be sure to let you know what I think, but I have a feeling I'll be telling you how much I cried...

    Thanks for the reminder!
